About us

  • Alexander Müller

    Co-Director

I believe that within a worringly short time frame AI will become more powerful, and currently, by default, more uninterpretable. Combined with the enormous incentives to prioritize capabilities over safety, this creates a serious risk of developing systems we do not fully understand and cannot reliably control. I am exploring how to steer this in the right direction. Learn more about me: https://alexanderakm.github.io/

  • Thomas Brcic

    Co-Director

I believe technology has the power to profoundly change society, for better or worse. It’s up to us to determine which direction we want to steer AI in. I’m undertaking a Master of Laws and am interested in how people, the economy, and polity will interact with AI.

  • Tarteel Mohamed

    Community Manager & Public Relations

I am an LLB student specialising in Technology Law, with an interest in the responsible integration of AI. I believe AI should remain a tool that empowers us, rather than one we grow dependent on or come to fear. I am keen to help shift the conversation around AI away from dependency and towards growth through legal frameworks that encourage innovation while safeguarding accountability and human agency.

  • Guillaume Pourcel

    Research

I’m a PhD student working on two fronts. On one side, I explore how to better exploit physics to build more efficient AI. On the other, I study autotelic agents (from auto = self, telos = goal), like humans, that can self-generate their own goals—a capacity that gives them the flexibility to pursue abstract, diverse, and novel objectives. • Iulia Bugan

    Governance & Privacy Lead

I am a bachelor student in Artificial Intelligence and Honours student at the University of Groningen, currently pursuing a Minor in EU Law and Politics at University of Amsterdam. I have a strong interest in AI Governance and the challenges of aligning artificial intelligence systems with human values. My academic work combines technical knowledge with an awareness of ethical, societal, and policy considerations, aiming to contribute to the safe, responsible, and beneficial development of AI technologies. I believe that meaningful change in AI governance must begin in the European Union, the world’s digital regulator, where law, ethics, and innovation meet.

  • Jeremias Ferrao

    Technical Alignment Lead

I believe that Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) will become the most influential invention in human history. However, it is crucial that we approach its use with caution, as unrestrained application may lead to catastrophic outcomes. Therefore, my research interests lie in the areas of mechanistic interpretability and alignment
